carving set in wall, showing Jesus being met by His mother

4 - Jesus is Met by His Mother

Is this a momentary exchange of loving looks in a sea of suffering?  Or is it a painful sharing by Mary in the agonising work of God's love for His people.  His unfailing love for an unfaithful people.

Being on the receiving end of an unfaithful love affair can be very painful, to some it might seem more agonising than physical pain?  Either way, God experiences both kinds of pain, that of being failed in love and that of maximal physical suffering.

Some think that faith is 'wishful thinking'.  But trying to live without facing the consequences of our actions: that is the real 'wishful thinking' - pretending that what we do somehow doesn't matter.  Pretending that what we think is purely private and inconsequential.  Oh how it matters!  Jesus says: 'if this is how they treat the green wood, then how will it be when the wood is dry'!

If love can't motivate us enough, then let's pray for the grace to fear God!
